12th November 2018 | Prof. Christoph Herrmann is a new member of the Executive Board of the Fraunhofer IST
Professor Dr. Christoph Herrmann, Head of Internationalization at OHLF, has responded to the call of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and has been a member of the Executive Board of the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST since November 1, 2018, alongside Professor Dr. Günter Bräuer. At the same time, Mr. Herrmann will continue to head the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology (IWF) at the Technische Universität Braunschweig and head the Internationalization at OHLF.

26th October 2018 | Lightweight structures and mobility: research is becoming more internationalSecond scouting trip of the Open Hybrid LabFactory to the Tongji University in Shanghai
From October 11th to 18th, a scouting trip to Shanghai took place by a delegation from the Open Hybrid LabFactory, OHLF. The OHLF is building up their international activities with China as one of their target regions. The aim was to strengthen the ties with the School of Automotive Studies (SAS) at Tongji Uni-versity, a partnership which has been established in a first meeting in April this year.

In order to intensify the partnership between the two universities, which has existed for more than 30 years, the TU Braunschweig has opened a local office in the premises of the Chinese-German House on the Siping Campus of the Tongji Universi-ty in the presence of the President of the Tech-nische Universität Braunschweig, Prof. Anke Kaysser-Pyzalla and the Vice-President of the Tongji University, Prof. Zhiqiang Wu.

8th Oktober 2018 | Open Hybrid LabFactory supports advanced training for qualified professionals from Singapore
As part of the “C-Suite” training program 25 participants, from leading small and medium-sized enterprises Singapore, took the opportunity from 8th to 12th of October 2018 to gain insights into the applied digital transformation of th german industry. During this training program, the group visited the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology at the Technical University of Braunschweig, the LeichtbauCampus Open Hybrid LabFactory in Wolfsburg, the Volkswagen plant in Braunschweig, Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG, DMG Mori AG (Gildemeister AG), B.Braun Melsungen AG and Festo AG & Co. KG..The “C-Suite” programme is organised by the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) in cooperation with Braunschweig Technical University and the Open Hybrid LabFactory for the “Business Leader Alliance Club Singapore”.

24th September 2018 | German-Singaporean Workshop on the Sustainable Factory of the Future
During a workshop on September 24th, 2018 in Berlin, representatives of the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), TU Braunschweig and the Open Hybrid LabFactory exchanged their views on the latest trends in the areas of sustainable and urban factories and resource efficiency.The event was hosted by Prof. Dr. Vanessa Carlow from the Institute for Sustainable Urban Development at the TU Braunschweig.As a special prelude and a vivid introduction to the workshop, the delegation had jointly visited the Transparent Factory of Volkswagen AG in Dresden, where they gained exclusive insights into the production of e-golf and future mobility topics.

18th June 2018 | Participation in „10th Australia-Germany Science Circle“ in Berlin
To intensify the partnership relations with Australia, an OHLF delegation led by Prof. Christoph Herrmann (Director Internationalization OHLF) took part in this year’s “10th Australia-Germany Science Circle” in Berlin. Craig Roy, Deputy Chief Executive, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) opened the conference with a presentation on the topic of “Measuring the Impacts of Innovation”. In the morning of the conference, representatives of OHLF and CSIRO discussed their research fields and potential synergies. In addition, OHLF representatives met with Australian Ambassador I.E. Lynette Wood to discuss the partnership with Australian research partners and future cooperation opportunities.

Dr. Claudia, Creigthon, member of the research group of the Australian research partner “Carbon Nexus” in Geelong, accepted the invitation of the Open Hybrid LabFactory to give a lecture at this year’s conference “Faszination Hybrider Leichtbau” in Wolfsburg. The Open Hybrid LabFactory is the organizer of this conference on the topic of lightweight construction.Next to the conference, the OHLF member institutes, the Institute of Joining and Welding Technology (ifs) and the Institute of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology (IWF) took the opportunity to present their research at the respective institutes and intensify scientific exchange.

27th April 2018 | Visit from Singapore
Two long-term collaboration partners from the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), Dr. Jonathan Low Sze Choon and Dr. Song Bin, visited the Open Hybrid LabFactory in Wolfsburg on April 27 in addition to their trip to the Hanover Fair and the 25th CIRP Conference on Life Cycle Engineering held in Copenhagen. In addition to a tour of the technical centre, the current state of the cooperation was discussed.

24th April 2018 | German-Singapore-Business-Forum in context of the “Hannover Messe Industrie 2018”
At this year’s Germany Singapore Business Forum (GSBF), Rudolf Held (Vice-President, Head of Global SAP Co-Innovation Hub, SAP SE), Jonathan Ng (Chief Executive of McKinsey Digital Capability Centre, Singapore) and Jens-Jürgen Härtel (Vice Chairman of Open Hbrid LabFactory) discussed how the partnership between Germany and Singapore can be further expanded and re-regional market opportunities can be used to achieve sustainable growth. The forum was held as part of the Hanover Fair on 24th of April.The Germany-Singapore Business Forum (GSBF) was opened in 1994 and has played a major role in promoting business and competence partnerships between German and Singaporean companies. Among the participants this year were the Singapore Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. S. Iswaran, and the German Ambassador from Singapore, Dr. Ulrich A. Sante.

18th April 2018 | International Collaboration on Hybrid Lightweight Structures between German Forschungscampus Open Hybrid LabFactory and A*STAR’S SIMTech
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Open Hybrid LabFactory (OHLF) Germany, and the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), a research institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), was signed today at the Precision Engineering Centre of Innovation (PE COI) Annual Conference. The collaboration aims to establish a globally recognised competence for Lightweight Structure technologies across the entire value chain of the automotive and aerospace industries in Germany and Singapore. OHLF and SIMTech share a common vision of promoting lightweight design and fabrication for the sustainability of the manufacturing sector.

During a short trip to Europe on April 9, representatives of SIMTech also visited the Open Hybrid LabFactory. In addition to a tour of the technical centre, a tour of the production halls of Volkswagen AG (OHLF full member) was organized.

26th March 2018 | Two new friends from Down under – The Open Hybrid LabFactory starts new collaborations with in Australia
Hybrid lightweight construction saves raw materials and energy – and is therefore a topic of the future for engineers around the globe. As part of its internationalization strategy the Open Hybrid LabFactory of the TU Braunschweig is now expanding its partner network with two re-search institutions in Australia: the „Carbon Nexus“ cluster in Geelong and the University of New South Wales in Sydney. The two new alliances are part of the „Asia Pacific“ initiative – as previously the collaboration with partners in Singapore.

23th March 2018 | Successful search for further australian partners: University of New South Wales
After the visit of “Carbon Nexus” in Geelong, the OHLF delegation travelled on to Sydney. Supported by the Australian Advanced Manufacturing Growth Center, a first meeting between the OHLF and the University of New South Wales took place in Sydney on March 23. Besides the signing of a MoU, which is proof of the future interest of the cooperation, an industry workshop took place to work out joint research priorities in order to initiate and work on joint projects in the future.

19th March 2018 | Visit the research halls of “Carbon Nexus” in Geelong
After a first successful matchmaking with Carbon Nexus, the scouting trip to Geelong took place from 19th to 20th of March. The aim of the two-day trip was to get to know each other’s research fields and to generate ideas for future cooperation. This was confirmed by the signing of a MoU. In addition, the German repre-sentatives took the opportunity to visit the Carbon Nexus research factory.

2nd March 2018 | „Match Making“ in theOHLF: Development of a German-Australian cooperation
On 2nd of March, in preparation of the scouting trip to Carbon Nexus in Geelong (Australia), the first “match-making” between representatives of the Open Hybrid LabFactory, and the head of research activities at Carbon Nexus, Prof. Russell Varley, took place. In the presence of the long-standing OHLF member “INVENT Gmbh”, the mutual research priorities were discussed in order to uncover possible synergies.

19th February 2018 | Target region “Asia-Pacific” – Internationalization of the Open Hybrid LabFactory
In the future, the research campus Open Hybrid LabFactory will work together with international research networks from the Asia-Pacific region to expand its expertise. The aim is to cooperate in the field of hybrid and function-integrated lightweight construction and to exploit synergy effects. The first delegation of research and industry members of Open Hybrid LabFactory has now met with potential future research partners for a joint workshop in Singapore. The focus was on research questions on the technologies of additive manufacturing and hybridization of components for automotive and aerospace applications.
